Introducing my donkey's

Joe and Mr. Gun Smoke
Joe and Mr. Gun Smoke

Since everyone has heard all about my silly donkeys, I think I should tell the story of how they became my very own donkeys. Joe and Mr.Gun Smoke came at different times because of different circumstances. I had a small pony whose name was Itsy Bitsy and owned her and her sister Buttons and Bows for 14 years.

Well Buttons started to have seizures and so we had to send her up to heaven. Itsy and Buttons had been together for so very long and were best friends and half sisters too. So when we had to put Buttons down, Itsy was by far the saddest animal I have ever seen because she was so lonely. I did have another horse that was very old and very big so she had some company but it just wasn't the same. She needed a little friend.

So I found a gal that bred miniature donkeys and thought that might be fun and also give Itsy some good company. I then went ahead and got Mr. Gun Smoke. He was just a tiny baby but Itsy, the pony, took to him right away. So they became really good friends. It took awhile, but at least Itsy had a friend. And the old horse really liked the new donkey.

The really sad part of this story is that Itsy got really sick with colic, and I had to put her down. It was probably the saddest day of my life. Mr. Gun smoke loved the big old horse but I knew that he needed a friend. Smoke needed someone to play with, because he was so young. So I called the gal where I had bought Smoke, and she had another baby donkey.

These two donkeys both have some problems so I was able to get them at reduced prices. So Joe was brought over to the farm and he was a tiny little thing. He was younger than Smoke. Smoke was so excited to see someone else with long ears, he was a little overbearing. It was scary for awhile but eventually they worked things out. And now they spend the day playing all kinds of donkey games.

Those lucky two boys have nothing to do all day except play, eat and sleep. My neighbors just love watching the donkeys do their playing because they play stallion games by rearing up at each other, knocking each other down by biting each others front legs, and of course having races of all types. And of course they have to chase the dogs and cats whenever they get the opportunity. They are great entertainment for everyone.

Beginnings of MewMew

This is a picture of Mewmew taken in 2007.

Hi there, my name is MewMew.

I had a very scary childhood and I don't know what happened, something scared me very badly, so I started running as fast as I could. I ran, and ran and ran some more.

Pretty soon I whizzed by a building that looked like a barn and saw a human standing there watching me. So I kept on running, and I was so tiny, I could run right through the human's chain link fence. I ran a little further and stopped right outside the second chain link fence because that silly human was mewmewing at me.

That probably isn't a word, mewmewing but the jist of it is, she was talking to me. It made me stop and think about it. The next thing I knew after quite a conversation with the human, a plate of food was put in front of me. Well I thought that was wonderful so I scarfed that down in a hurry.

My human, might as well name her, Marg, just stood there and watched me. I wouldn't dare think of going over to her cause I don't know anything about the humans. I was what they call a feral kitten, and I had very long hair which was all tangled up.

So once I had some good food, I started cleaning myself. I wouldn't let that Marg come anywhere near me. Who knows what she might do to me. Although it was nice of her to give me some food.

I saw that there were a lot of other cats living at Marg's house but they all seemed to know I was a scared little kitten and besides I am a very tough character myself. So eventually I saw where Marg came out of the house and where the other cats went to sleep under the house. Marg built a nice little house for me from a wheelbarrow and some old jackets, but I wanted to be with the other cats. So I just moved in. Why not, good shelter and good food.

Why Margs Animals?

There are two reasons why I want to promote this blog and website. Of course the first one is money.

I really need to make some money to help feed all the cats and dogs that I have taken in to my home.

It takes quite a bit of money to support these animals in the way that they need support with the vet bills and cat and dog supplies getting so expensive and I am on a fixed income which isn't much.

And I really would like to be able to rescue some more dogs and cats and even some horses and better yet some donkeys.

I have found a way to help rescue some dogs and cats in lieu of taking them myself. I have joined a wonderful group called They have over 500 emails a day come in about dogs and cats that need rescue and or donations for the ones that are sick or hurt.

There is also a site called that handles
cats, and there are many other pet sites that also put in animals that
need help or rescue and with the economy the way it is, the pounds and the shelters are overloaded with animals that the owners just can't keep anymore.

People are losing their homes,so they have no where to keep their pets. It is all very sad.

I am hoping to get people interested in assisting in helping some pets find homes, by joining some of these programs and making a few posts a day. Or just passing the word around about the sites.

So those are my two main thoughts on starting this website and blog. And I will really like telling the stories about my dogs, cats, horses, ponies etc. So I guess the third reason is to have a good time reliving history.
